Louie Family Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation
Overview
The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation plans to distribute roughly $100,000 in scholarships during 2026. The number of awards and the amount for each recipient will be determined by the Foundation after evaluating factors such as available funds and the qualifications of applicants.
Who may apply
This scholarship is open to students who will be first-year (freshman) undergraduates at a college or university in the United States for the 2026–2027 academic year. Eligible applicants include current high school seniors as well as individuals who are not presently seniors (for example, students taking a gap year or adults returning to college) provided they will be incoming freshmen in fall 2026. Candidates should demonstrate notable personal achievement, academic excellence, leadership, and/or community involvement.
Priority considerations
Applications will receive special consideration if the applicant:
- Has a parent who is a U.S. veteran or currently serving in the U.S. military;
- Shows documented financial need; or
- Is the first in their immediate family to attend college (parents did not attend college).
Required qualifications
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an incoming freshman for the 2026–2027 academic year and intend to enroll at an accredited U.S. college or university for that academic year.
- Have an unweighted cumulative GPA between 3.7 and 4.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). Applicants whose schools use a different grading scale must convert their GPA to a 4.0 scale before applying.
- Have a minimum SAT score of 1350 (out of 1600) or a minimum ACT composite score of 28. If an applicant did not take the SAT or ACT because their chosen institution does not require those test scores for admission, the applicant should indicate this on the application; the Foundation will confirm the institution’s policy before any award is made.
- Provide at least two letters of recommendation, including one from a current or former teacher in an academic subject.
- Submit the personal statements requested in the application materials.
- Have applied to a U.S. college or university (either full-time or substantial part-time) and intend to enroll for at least two terms during the 2026–2027 school year. Award offers will be contingent on verification of admission; applicants must provide a copy of their acceptance letter as soon as it becomes available.
- Be willing to participate in interviews (in person, by phone, or via Google Meet) if requested by the Foundation.
- Note: The Foundation retains the discretion to waive one or more of the above requirements for applicants who can demonstrate extraordinary adverse circumstances.
Award payment and enrollment conditions
Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the institution where the recipient is enrolled; recipients will not receive payment directly. If a recipient fails to matriculate or subsequently withdraws from the institution, the Foundation will seek reimbursement of any scholarship funds already disbursed to the school.
