About NATAS
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) is a professional organization committed to advancing television and related electronic media. Best known as the organization behind the Emmy Awards, NATAS also runs programs, seminars, and scholarship initiatives through its 19 regional chapters. Its nonprofit foundation provides scholarships to exceptional high school seniors who intend to pursue degrees in any field of the television industry.
New in 2026 — Educator of the Year Award
For the first time this year the NATAS Foundation will present an Educator of the Year Award. Students are invited to produce a short video (maximum three minutes, any format) that demonstrates how a teacher or advisor has made a meaningful difference in their life and why that educator deserves this inaugural honor. Submissions are due by March 2, 2026; the selected honoree will be announced this spring. Use the nomination link to submit your entry.
National Scholarships
This year the Foundation will grant three named scholarships, each totaling $10,000.
- Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship ($10,000)
Awarded to a student pursuing a career in sports broadcasting, this scholarship commemorates sportscaster Jim McKay (1921–2008). Created in 2009 and supported by HBO, CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN, and FOX, the Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship is presented annually at the Sports Emmy® Awards.
- Douglas W. Mummert Scholarship ($10,000)
Open to students aiming for careers anywhere in the television industry, this scholarship gives special consideration to applicants who have demonstrated positive community service impact.
- Mike Wallace Memorial Scholarship ($10,000)
Intended for students planning careers in television journalism, this scholarship is funded by a grant from CBS News in memory of longtime correspondent Mike Wallace (1918–2012) and is awarded each year at the News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
Eligibility
Scholarships are available to outstanding high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in any area of the television industry. Follow the Foundation’s submission instructions and deadlines for each award.
